CBS-2 (WFMY) will ring in 60 years young with a new news director. Jim Platzer, a former news director at WAND-TV in Decatur, IL, officially takes the reigns, replacing Gina Katzmark who left the Gannett-owned WFMY in January after 3 1/2 years as news director.
Platzer also worked for WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, WV, and has also worked at stations in Johnstown and Altoona, PA, Mobile, AL, and spent seven years in Florida, working in both Orlando and Tampa.
And there's no rest for the weary, as Gannett is cutting two top anchors at WFMY, according to NewsBlues. We're on the trail to find out who they may be.

Glad to see some new management. I'm a legacy CBS viewer meaning that the brand is so strong in my generation that I'll go to CBS & affiliates first.
However I am constantly disappointed by WFMY news. Seems likes its all done on the cheap, and it shows. That young weather girl they had a year or so ago - she was a disaster. Leigh Brock - she's great. The lead offs are terrible too. No national news or feeds. Essentially they do not have a newscast.
I quickly turn to Fox 8 or WXII. Its obvious they are about excellence every day.
Has the NewsBlues article claiming FMY let 2 top anchors go, turned out to be FALSE? I have heard nothing to substantiate their claim.
the Greensboro News and Record reports that Kent Bates is leaving..bummer...he was a very good and informative anchor...
who the other is no idea, though I do think a couple others are sticks in the mud on and off air and I have no use for them....
WFMY has basically outlived its usefulness IMO...not cutting edge at all, too homely for me.
It is my fathers favorite radio station, since I was younger I remember that he putted every morning.
Whoa! Amazing! Bad with words 'cause everything is so good!
